Finally! A blog about vintage push pin satin ornaments!

Finally! A blog about vintage push pin satin ornaments!

The leaves are changing colors, the air is becoming cooler every day. Holiday season is nearing, and for me it signals the start of crafting New Year ornaments. I was looking for a blog about making satin ornaments, but could not find much at all, so I decided to start my own blog. This is my first post, so let me introduce myself. My name is Natalya: a wife and a mother of two grown up children. I am a natural born entrepreneur with a passion for everything crafted by hand.  As a child I would disassemble my mom’s old leather boots and make handbags, gather wild flowers and create wall art. I would knit and embroider, paint, bead everything from shirts to small coin purses, and I have never been bored in my life, honestly, ever.

Later in life I learned how to make shoes and cowboy boots, and sew my own clothing, but throughout the years making vintage push pin ornaments held a very special place in my heart. After finding satin ball kits became harder (there was no E-Bay or Etsy yet!), I began creating my own ornaments “from scratch.” Naturally, later on, making Christmas ornaments became a tradition with my children. We would start early, at the end of October, and take all our treasures out onto a big table in a living room, and almost every night we would set out to work. Each of us had our own ornament style, unique.  It was amazing to see how differently we thought and found inspiration.  At first our ornaments were clumsy and funny-looking, but with time became more and more elegant.  It was a joyous time of bonding, secrets revealing, and laughing. I still look back at those times with nostalgia.

I started my push pin ornament kit site with my children a few years ago, but it was a toy project and did not take off until now, after the children grew up.  They wanted me to share with others: the creating process of making vintage push pin satin ornaments, so now you have a chance to join us “in our living room.”  Some of the designs are created by my children, some were inspired by them, and most are my own.  I am addicted to these ornaments, and I now make them year-round.  With our video instructions and kits, anyone can make an unforgettable gift for their loved ones.  One can choose the level of difficulty, or the time it takes to complete an ornament, but there is a project for everyone.

This blog will be about helping others with tips and inspiration, sharing experiences, answering questions, and reviving this old vintage hobby.  Let’s create holiday magic together!
